IC Engines vs EC Engines

IC Engines
EC Engines
Combustion of working fluid takes place in a control environment inside the engine.
Fuel combustion takes place external to the engine.

The heat generated thus induces high pressure which is directly used to drive the engine.
Heat generated from fuel combustion is transferred to the engine through steam which is the working fluid.
Engines like gasoline and diesel engines which has its working fluid combustion inside its control environment and hence thermal efficiency is high.
Gas and steam turbine are examples which have lower thermal efficiency since heat is lost during heat exchange between the burning fluid and the steam.
Compact and small size construction used in automobiles, motorcycles, etc.
Complex and large size construction used in thermal power generation, etc.
